A Rippin’ Good Time

Lynette: It seems all my knitting is for naught. I’ve had to rip or will rip every project that I’m working on. I’ll start with my socks.

I started my socks and knitted about 8″. That was fine, or so I thought. I turned the heel for the socks and began working on the foot. I used up more yarn than I realized and noticed that my yarn ball was dwindling. I really wanted to leave it and order another ball of yarn to finish the second sock, but that yarn is sold out everywhere. So, I ripped out a significant part of the sock. Just take a look at the ball. For a person that doesn’t knit as much anymore, it felt like I was ripping out a part of my soul.

The next rip session was with the Hourglass Sweater. I started the sleeve and was knitting at a regular pace. I ignored the warning bells that my sleeve was too wide and kept knitting. When both my daughters put their arms in my sleeve along with me, the gong in my head went off that my sleeve was too wide. What you see to the side of the body is the second row of my sleeve after the provisional cast-on. Again, precious knitting time. Ripping of my soul.

This is the first version of my International Scarf Exchange. I really wanted this scarf, but didn’t have the pattern for it. So, I ended up using this pattern, but I really didn’t like the outcome. The pattern called for knitting three strips, braiding and tacking them together. I showed the pattern to Monica via IM, and she noticed that the Rowan braid scarf is very similar to the Karabella cardigan cable. So, I will make a cup of tea and start to rip. Soul ripping. Precious time. You get the picture.

And because it’s The Year of the Dog and Q is growing so (16lbs), here’s a picture of him. He’s being obedient and decided to sit for the photo on command. Take a look at Buddy and Q. Don’t they look like long-lost brothers?
