I Should Really Stick to Knitting

Monica: I’ve always wanted to try Kool Aid Dyeing and when I went to a yarn shop in Dana Point a few weeks ago I saw some undyed sock yarn so I bought 2 skeins. Even better–they were on sale. For some reason Kool Aid packets were really hard to find at the grocery stores I shop at because most of them sold Kool Aid in a form that was already mixed. (I guess people are too busy to mix their own Kool Aid??) I finally found some and tried it last night. I used strawberry and ice blue raspberry lemonade flavors.

I don’t think I set the strawberry enough because the color bled a lot when I washed the yarn. So it went from this pretty bright red to a faded orangey pink. And the ice blue one? Initially, I didn’t mix the Kool Aid with enough water so there were lots of white splotches on the skein. For some people that’s ok, but I really don’t like white spots on my dyed yarn. Right now the 2 skeins are drying and I don’t have a picture of them but I’m not sure I like how they look. I think I will dye them again using different flavors–maybe the darker black cherry flavor for the strawberry and the grape for the turquoise skein?
