Back From Break
Monica: Last week my friend Debra passed away. She was the one I made a shawl for earlier in the year. She was a wonderful person and I was lucky to have known her.
Since she generated such a wonderful feeling of community I felt a little like I needed to be a more social knitter. I’ve really enjoyed meeting people at all the groups I’ve attended because, as we all know, knitters are great people. Many of them have become close friends. So I started going to a knitting group that meets at a quilt shop. Safe for me right because they don’t carry a lot of yarn since their primary focus is fabric? Wrong, they carry Koigu. The first time I went they had just gotten a new shipment in so I helped them set it up for their display thinking I’d get it out of my system. Each time I’ve been going I’ve sat with my back to the Koigu pretending it wasn’t calling my name. So far it’s worked. Oh, except for these beauties that came home with me before I started knitting at the shop. I really couldn’t resist a sale.
So far the knitters have been fun to hang out with and we are all very lucky to have an expert there to help with all of our questions. They all sew too so I’m hoping I’ll absorb their sewing vibes.
Monday I met with my former boss and she loved the shawl. She used it when she got chilly while we were eating dinner. (When the sun goes down it really feels cool especially since your body is used to the heat.) I was a little embarrassed at the lavish praise she bestowed (okay, who really says that?) on me since to me knitting it wasn’t very difficult. It’s not like I performed surgery–just knit a shawl.
I’m working on another shawl and a pair of socks right now. I’ll show pictures of that later. Hope you all have a nice weekend!
