One Christmas Present Down

Pattern: Cable Vest from this book
Yarn: Rowan Denim in Memphis
Monica: This project was a little challenging for me because of a few things:
- The boy I’m making it for is turning 4 in November but he’s really tall and skinny. I didn’t get any measurements from the Mom because I was too lazy to ask.
- The yarn I used shrinks in length by 20%.
- I followed a Japanese knitting pattern.

I got the yarn as a gift from Rowan membership and the pattern that came with the yarn was for a purse. I knew I was never going to make the purse so I was glad to find a use for it. I started out making the Museum Sweater (Ravelry link) from this book but after reading everyone’s comments on Ravelry about the pattern underestimating yarn requirements I had a feeling I would run out of yarn and sure enough after I knit the sleeves and the back I knew I definitely didn’t have enough yarn. Individually, each challenge wouldn’t have been a big deal but combined they were a little tricky for me. As I was knitting it I was worried that it was too long because it was 23″ long. After washing and drying it’s 21″ long. Luckily kids eventually grow into clothes.
One more present to go and then I want to make a cardigan for me since it’s practically fall now. Even though it’s only August we are having a cool summer and I can really get a lot of use out of one. It will be hard to decide which cardigan to start with since there are so many I want to make.
