Back to School U-Neck Vest
Pattern: Back to School U-Neck Vest by Stephanie Japel
Yarn: Malabrigo Worsted in Azul Profundo

Monica: Although I started this vest in 2009 I finished it on January 1 so I’m counting it as a 2010 FO. It was a good pattern and I didn’t make any modifications. I read a few reviews on Ravelry about how people didn’t like the wide shoulders and when I was talking to some people in my knitting group about them we decided we liked the almost cap-sleeve style of them.

I forgot to alternate skeins while I was knitting this and by the time I realized I should’ve done it I had already finished the ribbing and was too lazy to reknit. So the bottom part looks stripey and the top is darker and more solid in color. It’s a design element.

vest back

I added this vest to my Ravelry queue in back in 2007 so I was very excited to remove it. Lately I’ve been straying from my queue and making things that I never added but I’m going to try to do better this year. Sometimes it’s good for me to leave things in my queue to ferment because I am fickle and change my mind often. I’ve also had this yarn in my stash for a while now – Susan gave it to me and I wanted to save it for something special — so I was happy to use up stash too. I’m going to try to do better with that this year too.

I took that picture in Vegas and am now back in Chicago so I won’t be able to wear that here until it’s a little warmer. (While I’m typing this it’s 8 degrees.) We are supposed to get a warm-up this week so that will feel like a heat wave.

It looks great! I need to make this one again. I made it 2 years ago, but I lost weight and now it looks huge. Sad, because I loved it.

This is very nice! I love the shading in it and agree with others to wear it under a tutleneck or other shirt to get more use out of it.
