Happy 2012!
Monica: I hope you all had a wonderful New Year’s Eve celebration. We didn’t go out to see the fireworks on the Strip but we could hear them from our house. We are not that close to the Strip – about 20 miles away. One day we will have to go outside to see them – but probably not go to the actual Strip because I would get claustrophobic. I’m starting the new year off by showing the last of 2011′s knitting projects. First up is my favorite baby sweater to knit and gift:

Pattern: Trellis by Britta Stolfus Rueschhoff from Knitty, Spring 2005
Yarn: Rowan All Seasons Cotton in Cassis
I made the 6-month size out of 4 skeins of yarn that I had in the stash. I got it as a gift from a Rowan membership subscription and it came with a pattern for a wrap that I didn’t want to make. I hung onto it for a while and then finally found the perfect project to make. This sweater is for a baby whose gender is unknown so thought it would be a good color for at least the first few months that the baby can wear it.
This is another sample that I made really quickly – in 2 days.

Pattern: Solstice Cowl by Janel Laidman
Yarn: Teresa Ruch Designs Alpaca/Silk
The pattern was another one that was easy to follow and knit. The yarn is so soft and yummy that it felt really good on my skin.
It was difficult to photograph but you get the idea. I didn’t want to subject Buddy to wearing the cowl. I thought I’d save him the humiliation on the first day of 2012.

Love that lace cowl! That’s giving me an idea for some languishing lace yarn I have in the stash….

Happy New Year, the baby’s cardigan is gorgeous and the cowl too!! Nice modelling. We had fire crackers at the park down the road and if I leaned out the front window I could see them: quite dangerous!!
