Sunday Sunday
Monica: I finished 2 of the books that were in my pile from my previous post. I was almost done with one of them when I took the picture and the other one was a mindless read. Right now I’m reading Marley & Me and I’ve been bracing myself for a lot of tears since I cry at the drop of a hat when it comes to sappy dog stories. And movies, especially movies. Just ask Lynette about the movie My Dog Skip. My eyes tear up whenever someone says the name of that movie. But so far Marley & Me has not been a tear-jerker–yet. Charlie is reading A Dog Year and he’s been announcing every sad event. I think I will read Blink next because that might not be a tear-jerker. Or maybe it will.
I realized on Thursday that the post office is closed tomorrow due to a holiday so I had to finish my niece’s sweater quickly and had to mail it without blocking it first. I’m not so thrilled with it and I think it might be too small so I sent her other gifts just in case the sweater doesn’t work. I have another niece with a birthday next month so I quickly started that sweater so that I won’t be rushing to the post office without blocking it first. I’m knitting Glampyre’s mini-sweater without the puffy sleeves and instead of a button maybe with ties like this one for the closure.
I really like this particular Manos colorway and I have to tell myself that I shouldn’t be selfish and keep this for myself. I have the really pretty Malabrigo that Susan gave me that I could turn into this for myself so I have to resist. Sometimes Manos for me is like Koigu–I love the progression of colors and I cannot wait to see what color the next stitch will be.
I joined a sock knit-along the other day that the Purling Ps are hosting. I cannot resist them when there is a prize involved. I started the Log Cabin Socks while in New York and stopped working on them when I had to work on the stripey jacket. They are on-hold again until after I finish the Manos shrug. The socks are going surprisingly slow and I don’t know why. I’m using a smaller needle size than the pattern calls for because I’m a loose knitter. Maybe it’s the cables that are slowing me down.

The sweater is so lovely!
I have also joined 200Sox and I’m thinking of joining Count Your Socks too.

I think your niece’s sweater looks great! I’m a sucker for color.
Any type of book or movie that has animals in it makes me cry. “Babe” makes me cry every time, and it’s not even a sad movie!
I am so in love with those Log Cabin Socks, I need to just quit drooling over everybody’s and make some. I love your color choice!

The sweater is just too cute! I agree with you re movies with dogs. It’s the “Lassie Come Home” syndrome – the dog is always so nobel and saves someone’s life and then dies. Have you read “Dog Stories” by James Harriot (sp?)? It’s very good – just the right balance of tears and laughs.

The crying for Marley doesn’t happen until later and then the floodgates open! I just loved that book. Makes me sigh

Oh my, I remember My Dog Skip. I had to leave the room when the dog was abused. Of course my other name around this house is “Wuss.”
